Eagle Mountain Great Elevation Changes

Eagle Mountain Golf Club is located in Fountain Hills, Arizona -  just a short drive from Scottsdale. This is one of the few desert golf courses in the area that has tremendous elevations changes throughout. This is not a very long golf course, only slightly over 6,800 yards from the back tee, but it is definitely not a pushover.

Eagle Mountain is surrounded by Saguaro cacti and barren desert areas that contrast nicely with the lush green fairways on the golf course. This golf course is a mixture of fairway bunkers, water hazards and desert landscape. This golf course was designed by Scott Miller and he has given the player several options for playing each hole.

The staff at Eagle Mountain is very friendly and always willing to help out. Although they don't have a GPS System, they do provide a detailed yardage card to all guests on the first tee. Don't worry if you forget breakfast - there is usually  a basket of fruit with the starter to help the player get that extra energy for the front nine.

Eagle Mountain has a great variety of holes and the 1st hole is a fantastic way to begin your day. This hole allows the player to get under par really quickly. This par-5 is 582 yards from the back tees but plays downhill. There are mounds on the right side of the fairway that will push errant tee shots back toward the middle of the fairway. This is definitely a hole you want to use the driver on. A well-hit tee shot will give the longer players a chance to reach this poorly defended green.

There is only one bunker on this hole and it is located on the right side of the green. This hole is fairly wide open and will make for a good birdie. Don't be afraid to go after this green in two shots. There is no real danger around the green and anywhere around the green provides for an easy chip shot.

The shortest hole on the golf course is the 15th which plays anywhere from 74-129 yards. This par-3 requires a carry over both a desert area and a mammoth bunker guarding the front of the green. A well placed tee shot will find the middle of the green.
This is a wide green that has several tiers and knowing the pin position is very important. Don't let the length of this hole fool you; pay close attention as the greens are fast and difficult to navigate.

There are only two holes on this course in which water comes into play. The finishing hole is a par-4 playing at 420 yards, but it will play downhill. The best line from the tee is toward the second bunker on the right hand side. There is a ridge in the fairway that will keep the ball from rolling toward the hole, so you will need to hit enough club to get far down the fairway.

There is a pond on the right hand-side of the green so aiming toward the left  is a much better play. You should have a short to mid iron into the green which has several tiers on it. The greens at Eagle Mountain are usually in great shape - they are fast and have a lot of undulations in them.

Like most golf courses in Arizona, Eagle Mountain will be going through the overseeding process starting on September 30 and going through October 13. Once the golf course reopens they will be on cart path only for a few days. Golf courses in the desert southwest have to overseed with different grasses during the winter in order to ensure the golf courses will be in the best possible shape during peak season.
