Golf Digest magazine has consistently rated Legend Trail Golf Club 4.5 stars out of 5 on their "Best Places to Play" list. This golf course is located in North Scottsdale very close to Cave Creek, Arizona. Playing at only slightly over 6,800 yards Legend Trail is a great golf course for women golfers and players just starting out.
Weaving through the unique landscape that makes up the Sonoran Desert, Legend Trail has large fairways and greens to match. The fairways feature a great deal of undulations and knowing which side of the fairway to aim for off the tee can be very helpful. This is one of the few golf courses in the state that requires a forced carry on every hole to reach the fairway.
The front nine of this golf course will gently ease you into a relaxing day. Both of the par-3's on this side play less than 200 yards, from the back tee, and one of the par-5's is easily reachable in two shots. This all adds up to the best opportunity to shoot a low number on this golf course.
Once you head to the back nine, Legend Trail makes a dramatic shift to a players golf course. There are three par-4's among the first four holes of the back nine and none are shorter than 425 yards. The 11th hole is the most difficult driving hole of the group requiring a very accurate shot to a narrow fairway. The par-3 12th hole is over 230 yards but the good news is that the green is quite large. This could spell disaster for players who are not very good with the flat stick.
Legend Trail is always in good condition. You can expect the fairways to be fast and the greens will be faster than oil on a Scottsdale Road. The golf course is not overly challenging, but Rees Jones has done a great job of designing a golf course that plays well for all skill levels of golfers.
