Featured Golf Course February 2008
The TPC Scottsdale Stadium golf course was designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf to host the FBR Open on the PGA Tour. Annually in February, this golf tournament is one of the most highly attended sporting events anywhere in the world - typically the crowds number well over 500,000 fans. The golf course was specifically designed to maximize the fan's ability to watch golf. There are large mounds on each side of the fairways that give spectators a birds-eye view of all the action on the fairways. This desert golf course uses lots of water and sand to direct the player around the golf course. During the winter months there is a stark contrast between the overseeded fairways and the yellow dormant Bermuda grass in the rough. The edges of the bunkers have also been left dormant which is a feature only to be found on golf courses that operate year-round. The fairways at the TPC Scottsdale Stadium golf course are large and give you a generous amount of space to hit the ball. Avoiding the hidden bunkers and hazards will require you to rely on the information you get from your caddy. This information can save you strokes and frustration. The TPC Scottsdale Stadium golf course is kept in the finest tour condition year round. The TPC organization prides itself on pristine fairways and some of the fastest greens in the city. No matter when you play the golf course you will be impressed by the quality of the conditioning. The golf course plays to over 7,200 yards from the back tees and three of the four finishing holes have water that comes into play. The most popular of the finishing holes is the par-3 16th hole that only plays 162 yards from the back tee. This hole defines the style in which this golf course was built with mounds that serve as bleachers for the fans. More dramatic shots have been played on this hole than any other on the golf course. Certainly the TPC Scottsdale will challenge the best players in the world, but with several sets of tees this is a great golf course for the average golfer as well. Due to the stadium mounding, many off-line shots will find their way back, or at least closer, to the fairway. Related Golf Courses |
