Arizona Golf Reviews

The Golf Club at Eagle Mountain

The Golf Club at Eagle Mountain is located near the McDowell Mountains in Fountain Hills, AZ. I had heard many great things about this golf course and wanted to check it out for myself.

The course was located only 25 minutes from the Millenium Resort, where I was staying. It was a great drive out to the course, I was able to see some of the wonderful landscape that Arizona has to offer.

When I reached the golf course, I was impressed by the beauty of the surroundings. I was greeted at the bag drop by a friendly attendant who placed my clubs on a golf cart so I could check in with the golf shop. I arrived at the course early so I could warm up and hit some practice putts.

They have a great practice facility at The Golf Club at Eagle Mountain. All of the golf balls are neatly stacked in little pyramids. The driving range is situated up a hill so it is very difficult to hit one out of the range. After I hit a few practice balls I went over to the putting green. The greens were very quick and smooth.

As my tee time was approaching the starter came up and directed me to the first tee. When I reached the first tee another starter was there to give me course information that would be helpful for playing the golf course. I really liked the set up on the first tee. I was told the golf shop would make me a bag tag and engrave my name on it. That was first class. Also they had apples to give you energy for the course.

The first hole is a stunning par-5 measuring 582 yards. Although this may seem like a long way, the entire hole is downhill. I had not played very much golf in Arizona and i was not expecting the dramtic elevation changes I experienced on this golf course. I managed to birdie the first hole and was looking forward to a great day.

Before you play this golf course, be sure to brush up on your par-3 game. The front side includes 3 par-3's that require long iron tee shots. This makes the course more challenging and harder to score on. As you are playing the golf course be sure to look at the surrounding terrian. Along every hole you will see the magnificant Saguaro Cactus. You will see many cacti that have several arms. It is interesting to note that a cactus will only start to produce its first arm when it is around 65 years old. Some of these plants have been known to reach 200 years in age.

The back nine starts off again with a downhill par-5. This green is much better protected than the first green. The 10th green is guarded by a water hazard and bunker that fronts the enitre front, left portion of the green. If you hit a big tee shot you should be able to hit this green in two shots. The downhill slope allows for the ball to roll a long distance.

Eagle Mountain was in great shape. The bunkers were well manicured and there was great definition between the fairways and rough. This was truly a desert stlye golf course. There are several holes where you have to play shots over or around desert areas. This is the typical target golf course you would expect to find in the desert.

The little extras that this golf course provides really make for a great day. Although they don't have a GPS system they do provide a detailed yardage card that will guide you through each hole.
